Rotosound strings are synonymous with timeless sound, durability, and an important part of British and European rock history. James How (a former violin student and later a graduate engineer) began making strings for his own instruments early on. In 1958, he founded the company Rotosound, which quickly gained worldwide recognition for its production of high-quality strings. The first Rotosound artists included music greats such as the Shadows, Beatles, Rolling Stones, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Rotosound also manufactured strings for the rare Vox Organ guitar and the Burns Guitar Company. A key driving force behind this development was John Entwistle (The Who), who was involved in the development of the SWING BASS roundwound string. Word of its success quickly spread, and the "British Invasion" magically attracted other artists and bands such as Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and Queen. Jaco Pastorius, The Edge, Oasis, Guthrie Govan, Billy Sheehan, Doug Wimbish, and currently Michael Amott (Arch Enemy, Carcass) and Mikey Demus (Skindred) have always appreciated the legendary Rotosound sound. What began with electric bass strings expanded to include swing, jazz, and solo bass strings, which already represented world-class quality when strings from other manufacturers were still in the laborious development phase.
