Manufacturer's instructions:
  • 1.Print your image on the smooth, chalky white side of the paper. Not use too much ink and click off any high speed options.
  • 2.Allow to dry for 30 minutes.
  • 3.Cut to size, soak in water until the decal releases, (about 60 seconds).
  • For smooth non-absorbent surfaces such as glass, ceramics, plastic and metals there is enough gum on the back of the decal to give good adhesion although a little (methylated spirits) alcohol on the receiving surface improves adhesion.

For more absorbent surfaces such as wood then use the method below, using real Turpentine to melt the decal to the surface.
  • 1.Paint the wood etc with a good coat of real turpentine (white spirits or any substitute will not work).
  • 2.Apply the decal onto the turpentine painted surface image side upwards and carefully remove any air bubbles.
  • 3.Leave to dry for several hours. The decal will dry with a white background.
  • 4.To finish apply a few coats of any oil/spirit based varnish to protect and make the decal transparent.
  • 5.It you wish the decal to remain white then apply and water-based varnish.

Method provided by a customer for best durability on metal enclosures:
  • Have the image printed in reverse or mirror as the image is going to be placed face down on the surface.

  • To make sure there are no tiny air bubbles trapped in the toner, run a hot air gun or a hair blow dryer over the image until the toners go shiny or put in a hot domestic oven until the same thing happens. This will happen quite quickly. If you use an oven then it should be clean.

  • Cut your image to size, (if putting on a tile it is a good idea to cut the decal so it covers the whole of the tile so edge can be seen.) It is possible to remove the decal and so any edge, but that will be covered later

  • Soak the image in water until the decal loosens on the backing sheet and apply, image side upwards, carefully removing any air bubbles, on the surface.

  • Wash away any gum that remains on the back of the decal as this will turn brown when baked. After baking if any gum has been missed and turned brown, it can be removed with hot soapy water.

  • Using a soft rubber squeegee or a lightly damped sponge, remove any excess moisture and air bubbles from under the decal. If the surface has a complex curve then the decal can be heated with a hairdryer and any creases stretched out

  • Place in a domestic oven at the bottom set to the lowest possible temperature to dry out and start to change it's state, for at least one hour then slowly increase the temperature over the next hour or so until the decal becomes shiny like a glaze and then allow to cool. If you find the decal starts to bubble then slow down.

The following baking temperatures are known have worked well (2H25 in total):

  • 60 min at 50°C
  • 15 min at 75°C
  • 15 min at 100°C
  • 6 min at 110°C
  • 6 min at 120°C
  • 6 min at 130°C
  • 6 min at 140°C
  • 6 min at 150°C
  • 5 min at 160°C
  • 5 min at 170°C
  • 5 min at 180°C
  • 5 min at 190°C
  • (optional for larger decals) 5 min at 200°C

    Notes:
When overheated or warmed too quickly, the decal turns permanently yellowish.
The paper turns white when it becomes dry
At about 180°C/190°C, it turns transparent.
Don't touch the decal before it's cooled down, otherwise it could be torn apart.
